festival-fair · 2026-05-05

South African artists Faith XLVII and Lyall Sprong created a site-specific installation titled 'Astronomia Nova' for the Artscape Festival in the forests of Värmland, Sweden. The work features a large suspended moon that illuminates the darkness of the woods, intended as a homage to nature's magic and ancestral rhythms. The artists aim to reconnect humans with their environment, emphasizing that natural elements like tides, earth vibrations, sunlight, and scents deeply influence us. Faith XLVII stated to Times Live that they use magical realism to rekindle imagination and wonder, addressing humanity's relationship with the whole and the profound bond between humans and nature. The project was realized in 2017.
