Sous la Plage: An Online Community of Dreamers

Founded on March 28, 2020, during the first COVID-19 lockdown, Sous la Plage is an online project that transforms individual dreams into a collective tool for understanding reality. Founder Martina Magno describes it as a "community of dreamers" that goes beyond a mere dream collection, functioning as an artistic intervention, semiotic mapping, social dreaming experiment, and collective diary. The project has spawned a podcast "Lo scrigno della notte" with artist Matteo Nasini, a collaborative Spotify playlist called Dream Conscious Soundtrack, visual amplifications by photographer Giulia Nomis, and illustrations by Laura Aguzzi that contributed to the Festival della Mente in Sarzana. An ongoing audio installation, "Centouno Risvegli," was created with Lea Walter of the collective Radio noMade. Mapping of pandemic dreams revealed two recurring themes: the sea and small ancient villages. Magno plans to publish the dream corpus from March–May 2020, citing Charlotte Beradt's work on dreams during the Third Reich. She calls on Italian museums to create experimental exhibition spaces dedicated to dreams, inspired by the Canadian Museum of Dreams hub for the Museum of London.
