Soundreef sfida il monopolio SIAE con accordi SUISA e YouTube

Soundreef, a startup established in London in 2011 by Davide d'Atri and Francesco Danieli, has secured agreements with SUISA and YouTube to manage copyright collections. On January 16, 2018, at a press conference held at the Alcazar in Rome, the company revealed its plans to operate in Italy through the non-profit association LEA (Liberi Editori Autori), formed by authors, publishers, and industry professionals. This strategy enables Soundreef to navigate around the fiscal decree 148/2017 (art. 19), which restricts copyright mediation to non-profit entities, excluding for-profit companies like Soundreef. The move prompted a response from SIAE, which criticized LEA as a "non-profit association created for the occasion, clearly in conflict of interest." Soundreef boasts over 11,000 members among authors and publishers. The Italian government adopted the Barnier Directive through legislative decree no. 35 on March 15, limiting authorized entities to non-profits, with the law conversion occurring on December 16, 2017. D'Atri remarked, "Now we can truly say that a small company has dismantled the century-old monopolistic dominance of SIAE."
