SoundNoSound: Giovanni Gaggia and Alessio De Girolamo at Fano Jazz by the Sea

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

For the second consecutive year, the Fano Jazz by the Sea festival, held in the Marche coastal city for over two decades, integrates visual art installations into its program. Artists Giovanni Gaggia and Alessio De Girolamo have been invited to occupy the basement of Palazzo Bracci Pagani, a historic central building, with two conceptually distinct but evocatively integrated installations. Gaggia's work uses the sound of a dripping drop and recordings of grieving relatives of Ustica massacre victims, heard individually through headphones hanging from the ceiling, to emphasize inevitability and solidarity in the face of tragedy. De Girolamo pushes the convergence of science and music to an extreme, using a tuning fork tuned to a limit frequency to merge chemical element theory with sound physics. The exhibition, titled SoundNoSound, is curated by Milena Becci and runs until August 3, 2016.
