Souldesigner's videomapping lights up Naples basilica for Sky Arte Festival
A spectacular videomapping projection animated the facade of the 17th-century Basilica of Santa Maria della Sanità in Naples on May 6-7, 2017, during the first edition of the Sky Arte Festival. The three-day event filled the city with music, theater, art, and meetings. The installation, created by Souldesigner studio led by Samuele Franzini, explored play as a driver of cultural regeneration, drawing on Neapolitan playing cards and 1980s video games. By blending ancient iconography with contemporary languages, the videomapping immediately captivated the public, who participated enthusiastically. Franzini stated the challenge was to narrate iconic elements of the city's culture and tradition in a non-trivial, engaging contemporary language. He emphasized that the synergy between technology and creativity, along with the strength of the message communicated, were key to the initiative's success, which he was proud to conceive and realize in an extraordinary city like Naples.
