Sotheby's Milan Contemporary Auction Totals €15.4 Million, Led by Fontana
Sotheby's Contemporary Auction in Milan on April 20, 2023, achieved €15,445,990 in total sales, surpassing the €14,193,120 from the previous year's auction. Of 70 lots offered (two withdrawn), only five remained unsold. The top lot was Lucio Fontana's Concetto Spaziale, Attese (1965-66) at €2,589,000. Giorgio Morandi's Natura Morta (1948) sold for €1,318,500, and Alighiero Boetti's Senza Titolo (1988) reached €635,000. A record was set for Carla Accardi, whose Labirinto Barrato (A Settori) (1957) sold for €355,600. Works by international artists such as Manolo Valdés, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Andy Warhol also performed well. The auction took place at Palazzo Serbelloni, decorated with Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades for Fuorisalone 2023.
