Sotheby's London March 2024 Auction Highlights: Bacon, Dubuffet, Monet, and Italian Masters

Sotheby's London has announced top lots for its Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction featuring The Now, scheduled for March 6, 2024. The sale comprises approximately 70 lots spanning Impressionism to contemporary works. Francis Bacon's 'Study of George Dyer' (1970), estimated at £5-7 million, is the last portrait of his companion before his death and returns to market after over fifty years, last acquired by Marlborough Gallery in 1970. Jean Dubuffet's 'Le Guilleret' (1961) from the George & Mary Bloch Collection, part of the Paris Circus series, is estimated at £2-3 million. Celebrating Impressionism's 150th anniversary, Claude Monet's 'Arbres au bord de l’eau, printemps à Giverny' (1885) and Paul Signac's 'Saint-Tropez. Le rayon vert' (1906) are each estimated at £5-7 million; the Signac has not been offered since 1958. Françoise Gilot's 'Portrait de Geneviève avec un collier de colombes' (1944) debuts at auction, donated in 1986 to Arianna Huffington. Italian artists include Lucio Fontana's 'Concetto Spaziale' (1956) from the Pietre series, estimated at £1.2-1.8 million, and Salvo's 'Senza titolo' (1988), estimated at £100,000-150,000.
