Sotheby's Launches Inaugural Auction in India at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel
Sotheby's has entered the Indian art market with its first auction in the country, titled "Boundless: India," held at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai on November 29, 2018. The sale features paintings, sculptures, design objects, and photography by 20th- and 21st-century Indian artists celebrating the region's visual art and culture. Notable lots include Tyeb Mehta's rare and important painting "Durga Mahisasaura Mardini," as well as photographs of India by Sebastião Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Steve McCurry.
