Sotheby's Hong Kong Contemporary Art Evening Sale on October 9, 2021 achieved a total of HK$586,862,000 (approximately €65 million), confirming Hong Kong as a key market for contemporary art. Top lots included Jean-Michel Basquiat's Untitled (Red Warrior) (1982), which sold for HK$162,926,000 (€18 million), just above its low estimate. Joan Mitchell's Untitled (1967) exceeded its high estimate at HK$65,261,000 (€7,227,000). Roy Lichtenstein's Reflection: Mystical Painting (1989) also surpassed its high estimate, selling for HK$48,026,000 (€5,337,000). Yoshitomo Nara's Under The Hazy Sky (2012) achieved HK$68,708,000 (€7,700,000). Banksy's Kate Moss (2005) remained unsold, disappointing expectations. Several young artists set records: Louis Fratino (b. 1993) sold Tristan Dancing. Venus (2017) for HK$1,197,000 (€133,300), doubling its low estimate. Jadé Fadojutimi's Under the Weather (2017) far exceeded its estimate, selling for HK$6,225,000 (€691,000). Loie Hollowell's Portrait of a Woman with Green Hair (2015) sold for HK$8,040,000 (€890,000), well above its HK$1,800,000 estimate. Shara Hughes' Pink Morning (2016) jumped from HK$800,000 to HK$5,015,000 (€555,000). Rafa Macarrón's Rutina Fluor (diptych) (2019) sold for HK$4,284,000 (€476,000), seven times its estimate.
