Sotheby's Contemporary Auction in Milan Features Gnoli, Morandi, Boetti, and Fontana

Sotheby's Contemporary Auction in Milan, scheduled for November 23, 2022, at Palazzo Serbelloni, will offer 62 works from prominent European collections, with over three-quarters appearing on the market for the first time. The auction highlights Italian masters including Domenico Gnoli, Giorgio Morandi, Alighiero Boetti, and Lucio Fontana, alongside international artists Hermann Nitsch, Henryk Stazewski, Hans Hartung, Andy Warhol, Victor Vasarely, and Sam Francis. A preview was held at Palazzo Altieri in Rome. Top lots include Gnoli's 'Le Canapé Bleu' (1964, estimate €1-1.5 million), which was featured in his recent retrospective at Fondazione Prada; Morandi's 'Natura Morta' (1959, estimate €700,000-1 million); Boetti's 'Colonna' (1968, estimate €1-1.5 million); and six works by Fontana, including 'Concetto Spaziale, New York' (1962, estimate €500,000-700,000). Sotheby's holds the Italian record for Gnoli with 'Sofa' (1968, sold for €2.5 million in November 2016). The auction follows a recent record for Boetti's 'Mappa' in New York. Marta Giani, Head of Italian Sales, Contemporary Art, Europe, noted that the works offer a panorama of vibrant Italian artistic moments in dialogue with contemporaneous European and international pieces.
