Sotheby's Breuer Building to Feature High-End Restaurant in NYC

Sotheby's will relocate to the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue in autumn 2025, with Herzog & De Meuron transforming the Marcel Breuer-designed brutalist landmark. The auction house's new flagship will include salesrooms, galleries, and exhibition spaces. A high-end restaurant, developed with Roman and Williams, will occupy the former Flora Bar space at street level. This reflects a growing trend of art-world hospitality in New York, including Bar Clemente by Francesco Clemente and chef Daniel Humm at Eleven Madison Park, and Manuela, the Artfarm restaurant opened by Iwan and Manuela Wirth in Soho. Meanwhile, artist Lucien Smith will revive the historic FOOD restaurant in Chinatown at 89 Canal Street, opening October 2025, with plans to expand to London, Milan, and Paris. FOOD was originally founded in the 1970s by artists Carol Goodden, Tina Girouard, and Gordon Matta-Clark, and became a hub for the New York art scene.
