Sotheby's Awards $250K to Black Cinema, Turner Prize to Charlotte Prodger, Getty Museum Faces Court Order
In 2020, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles will host the exhibition 'Regeneration: Black Cinema 1900-1970,' supported by a $250,000 grant from the second annual Sotheby's Prize. The selection was made by a jury that included Sotheby's chairman Allan Schwartzman. On Tuesday, during a BBC broadcast, it was revealed that Charlotte Prodger, the Glasgow-based artist who won the Turner Prize in 2018, will represent Scotland at the 2019 Venice Biennale. The Turner Prize jury, chaired by Farquharson, featured Oliver Basciano, Elena Filipovic, Lisa LeFeuvre, and Tom McCarthy. Additionally, Italy's Supreme Court has mandated the Getty Museum return the ancient Greek statue Victorious Youth, unearthed in 1964. The Jerwood Charitable Foundation also announced its 2019 awards for 12 young artists.
