Sony World Photography Awards 2018 introduces project funding for winners
The 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, organized by the World Photography Organisation, introduce significant changes. For the first time, category winners can receive Sony funding for future photographic projects, in addition to cash prizes and Sony digital equipment. Professional competition winners get $7,000, while Student Focus finalists receive $3,500 for a collaborative project commissioned by Sony and the World Photography Organisation. The competition has four sections: Professional, Open, Youth, and Student Focus. Jury chair Mike Trow advises entrants to choose stories carefully, research thoroughly, edit ruthlessly, and seek external opinions. Free entry deadlines: December 4, 2017 (Student Focus), January 4, 2018 (Open, Youth, National Award), and January 11, 2018 (Professional).
