Sony's E-Mount License Partners List Excludes Chinese Lens Makers

Sony has published its first-ever list of E-Mount License Partners, revealing a tiered system for third-party lens manufacturers. The list includes established brands such as Cooke, Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma, Kenko Tokina, Cosina, and LK Samyang, with surprising inclusions like Fujifilm and Thales (which produces Angenieux lenses). These official partners reportedly receive greater access to Sony engineers and camera data, unlike companies relying on reverse engineering. Notably absent are Chinese manufacturers like Viltrox, Venus Optics, 7Artisans, and TTArtisan. This follows a 2025 incident where Viltrox lenses had compatibility issues with the Sony a7 V, which were resolved via firmware update. Sony states that the E-mount Basic Specifications are disclosed for compatibility but does not guarantee all functions, advising users to contact license partners for quality assurance.
