Sonia Kacem Wins Fourth Edition of Artisti per Frescobaldi Prize

award · 2026-05-04

Swiss artist Sonia Kacem won the fourth edition of the Artisti per Frescobaldi prize with her ceramic work 'Les Grands,' awarded on October 26 at the GAM Galleria di Arte Moderna in Milan. The jury, composed of Hans-Ulrich Obrist (Serpentine, London), Elena Filipovic (Kunsthalle Basel), and Andrea Viliani (Museo Madre, Naples), praised her use of natural materials and reinvention of traditional craft techniques. Kacem beat finalists Francesco Arena (with 'Senza Titolo. Lastra') and fellow Swiss Claudia Comte (with 'Quarter Circle Painting'). Their works are on view at GAM until November 4 and will join the collection at CastelGiocondo in Montalcino, the Frescobaldi estate. Each artist also designed a label for a limited edition of 999 bottles (333 each) of CastelGiocondo Brunello 2013. The biennial prize, conceived in 2012 by Tiziana Frescobaldi, collaborates with critic Ludovico Pratesi, who noted that artists interpret CastelGiocondo freely, without site-specific constraints. Proceeds from the limited Magnum series support a contemporary art association.
