Song Dong's 'Same Bed Different Dreams' at Pace London
Song Dong's survey exhibition 'Same Bed Different Dreams' opened at Pace Gallery, London during Frieze week, featuring the participatory installation 'Eating the City' (2003–ongoing) made of confectionery. The show includes works from the 1990s onward, such as 'Writing Time with Water Beijing' (1995), 'Broken Mirror' (1999), the 'Mandala' series (2015), and the 'Sketch' series (2015). The centerpiece, 'Same Bed Different Dreams No. 3' (2018), combines salvaged window-panes, found crockery, and lights on a double bed. Song Dong, a Beijing artist raised during the Cultural Revolution and graduating in 1989, often comments on Chinese urban transformation and social issues through everyday objects. The exhibition runs from 1 October to 5 November 2019.
