Sónar Barcelona Turns 25: A Pioneer of Electronic Music and Digital Art
Sónar Barcelona, a prominent electronic music festival, marks its 25th year from June 14 to 16, 2018. Established in 1993 by Enric Palau, Ricard Robles, and Sergio Caballero, it first took place at CCCB as a hub for multimedia arts. Each edition draws around 100,000 participants, showcasing a blend of evolving visual arts and its musical foundation. Significant milestones include the introduction of Sónar+D in 2013, which integrates specialized programs with technological creativity. Past highlights feature installations like Earthworks by Semiconductor and Microtonal Wall by Tristan Perich. To celebrate its anniversary, Sónar is launching 'Sónar Calling,' which beams music into space, alongside a refreshed visual identity designed by Sergio Caballero. Events will be held at Fira Montjuïc and Fira Gran Via.
