Somewhere over the Rainbow: Frac Aquitaine Exhibition Blends African Art, Design, and Contemporary Works

The Frac Aquitaine in Bordeaux presents "Somewhere over the rainbow" from September 30 to December 31, 2010. The exhibition, named after the song from Victor Fleming's The Wizard of Oz, features a private collection started in 1980 by two passionate amateurs. It mixes African art, design, and contemporary artworks, aiming to create unexpected encounters and sensory experiences. The show is organized into seven sections based on fictional and existential resonances: abstraction, pleasure, death, displacement, exchange, the color yellow, and the night. Works include Hopi tablets and Pierre Savatier's photograms, Delphine Gigoux-Martin's flying rabbits, Ivan Navarro's light path, Ron Arad's Schizzo chairs, Andres Serrano's Dante's Inferno, Gérard Garouste's Orion and the forge, Martine Bedin's Personna non grata armchairs, a Mbwoom mask, Stéphanie Cherpin's chaotic assemblage, Benoît Maire's Coulure Constance Meyer, and Daniel Schlier's Composition with bicycle. The exhibition avoids enumeration and demonstration, favoring a sensitive approach that respects the distance needed to adjust the gaze and diversify spaces to explore.
