"Solidarity is Not a Metaphor exhibition opens in Venice, curated by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez and Alserkal Initiatives"

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From April 16 to 21, the exhibition When Solidarity is Not a Metaphor will be held at My Art Guides Venice Meeting Point, located at the Navy Officers’ Club – Arsenale in Venice. Curated by Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez and commissioned by Alserkal Initiatives, the event showcases a variety of installations, photographs, performances, and discussions. Drawing inspiration from the 2012 work of Eve Tuck and K. Wayne Yang, it explores themes of injustice through daily actions in the face of violence. Petrešin-Bachelez highlighted solidarity as a political endeavor, while Vilma Jurkute mentioned the exhibition's aim to address global genocides and reshape practices. Collaborating with Cité internationale des arts and Alserkal Initiatives, the artists tackle issues such as women’s protests in Tehran and the displacement from Ukraine to France, fostering collective learning and a caring ethic.
