Solakov, Alaoui, and Attia Exhibitions at Galleria Continua San Gimignano
Galleria Continua in San Gimignano presents three concurrent exhibitions featuring Nedko Solakov, Leila Alaoui, and Kader Attia. Solakov (born 1967 in Bulgaria) returns to color with a new series of watercolor drawings titled "Stories in Colour," characterized by childlike poetics and subtle melancholy. The exhibition includes a small 24-carat gold sculpture called "Shrunken Ego." Leila Alaoui (born 1982 in Paris, died 2016 in Burkina Faso) is honored with "Je te pardonne" at Hotel Leon Bianco and the former cinema. The show features her photography and video work, including the series "Les Marocains," and is framed by an imaginary letter written by her sister Yasmina to Alaoui's assassin. Alaoui was killed in a terrorist attack in Burkina Faso while on a mission for Amnesty International. Kader Attia (born 1970 in Seine-Saint-Denis) presents "Reflecting Memory," exploring his concept of repair through works that highlight scars rather than erasing trauma. The exhibition includes a documentary on phantom limb syndrome and new pieces expanding on memory and resistance. Attia recently participated in the Venice Biennale.
