Sol LeWitt's Wall Drawings catalogued online after 12 years

publication · 2026-05-04

Artifex Press has published the complete catalogue raisonné of Sol LeWitt's Wall Drawings online after twelve years of work. The project began in 2006 in collaboration with the artist and continued with his heirs. Editor Lindsay Aveilhé described it as an 'epochal undertaking' that uncovered 32 previously unrecorded works. The catalogue lists 1,350 works with annotations, addressing the challenge of cataloguing reproducible pieces, some executed after LeWitt's death and others remaining in project phase. The online format allows for easy future updates. This follows similar online catalogues for Edgar Degas and Salvador Dalí. The Degas catalogue, completed by Michel Schulman, updated Paul-André Lemoisne's 1946 work, adding to 1,450 paintings, pastels, and drawings. The Dalí catalogue, directed by Montse Aguer with Antoni Pitxot, took seventeen years and is divided chronologically into five sections covering works from 1929 to 1983.
