Soft Structure: Women-Led Canadian Designers at New York Design Week
During New York Design Week, the exhibition 'Soft Structure' will be showcased by five Canadian women-led studios, including Mary Ratcliffe Studio and The Goodman Studio, along with glass artist Sylvia Lee. Taking place at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the exhibit will highlight designs that foster emotional bonds and tactile experiences. Featured works include Sylvia Lee’s water-inspired Geo Sconce, Mary Ratcliffe’s Decker side tables influenced by action sports, and Maha Alavi’s Lithic Lounge Chair made from solid red oak. This initiative aims to address the disparity in design representation, emphasizing the need for a more intuitive and empathetic approach.
