exhibition · 2026-04-19

The Gaudenz Ruf Art Prize exhibition's third edition took place in Sofia, showcasing more than twenty Bulgarian artists, among them nominees Lazar Lyutakov, Kamen Stoyanov, and Milko Pavlov. Established by Gaudenz Ruf, a former Swiss ambassador, the award grants 2,500 Euro to a seasoned artist and 500 Euro to a newcomer. Nadezhda Lyahova received the advanced award for her 2007 video titled "Globally and on a long term basis the situation is positive." This year's edition incorporated diasporic artists to address issues of brain drain. In August, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Sofia, launched a permanent space with its inaugural exhibition "Techniques." Additionally, the Sofia City Art Gallery showcased "The Temptation of Chalga," while "Interface Sofia" documented the Visual Seminar project. Ruf pointed out the difficulties facing Bulgaria's art market.
