Sodzil House by Esencial Studio Preserves Yucatán's Henequen Heritage

Sodzil House, designed by Esencial Studio, is a 435 m² residential project completed in 2025, located near Hacienda Sodzil Norte in Yucatán, Mexico. The architects, Sebastián Montalvo Millet and Esteban Hernandez Martín, aimed to preserve the site's historical and environmental traces, including endemic vegetation, mature trees, and ancient stone walls known as albarradas. The project is curated by Valentina Díaz and documented by photographer Lluís Bort. The construction involved a team of specialists: technical architect Miquel Gibert Ramos, topographic survey by Prefabricats Pujol, prefabricated structure by Construccions Canyellas, builder Electrocreixell, facilities by EGC Consulting, geotechnical study and state by IMG Reformas integrales, exterior joinery by Carreté Finestres, and pool by Kit Mi Piscina. Materials and products were sourced from Ikea, Lufe, and Sklum. The design philosophy treats the preexisting traces as a natural continuation of the landscape, integrating the house into its surroundings. The project was featured on ArchDaily, highlighting its architectural significance and contextual sensitivity.
