Sodoma's Early Works Take Center Stage in Turin Exhibition

An exhibition dedicated to Antonio Bazzi, also known as Il Sodoma (Vercelli, 1477 – Siena, 1549), is currently taking place at the Museo di Arti Decorative Accorsi-Ometto in Turin. Curated by Serena D'Italia, Luca Mana, and Vittorio Natale, the show is titled 'Alla conquista del Rinascimento' and showcases approximately fifty artworks, many of which are being displayed for the first time. These pieces come from various private collections and esteemed institutions, including the Accademia Carrara, Pinacoteca di Brera, Musée Jacquemart-André, Galleria Borghese, and the Vatican Museums. The exhibition highlights Sodoma's early career, including his apprenticeship at the age of thirteen with Giovanni Martino Spanzotti, and features notable works like 'Sacra Famiglia con san Giovanni Battista e un angelo' and 'Compianto sul Cristo morto' (1500-1503). It will be open until September 6, 2026, at Via Po, 55, Turin.
