Sobey Art Award 2023 shortlist announced with five regional artists
The 2023 Sobey Art Award has shortlisted five artists, each hailing from a distinct region of Canada. Séamus Gallagher represents the Atlantic, Anahita Norouzi stands for Québec, Michèle Pearson Clarke is from Ontario, Kablusiak represents the Prairies and the North, while Gabrielle L'Hirondelle Hill is from the West Coast & Yukon. The award winner will receive $100,000, with the other finalists awarded $25,000 each. Their works will be showcased at the National Gallery of Canada from 13 October 2023 to 3 March 2024, with the winner to be revealed in November. An independent jury, including notable figures such as Pamela Edmonds and Eve-Lyne Beaudry, made the selections. The award is facilitated by the National Gallery of Canada and the Sobey Art Award foundation.
