SOB's nomadic sculptures land in Miami with immersive installation
Stefano Ogliari Badessi (SOB) presents 'A Tribe from Wonderland' at The Directed Art Modern gallery in Miami from November 29 to December 30, 2019. The immersive installation uses recycled materials, primarily silk from the Como textile company Mantero 1902, combined with flexible reeds and metal wires to create surreal characters, masks, symbolic heads, and ritual objects. The sculptures are housed in inflatable corridors or spheres that become dreamlike rooms. A previous iteration at the Museo Civico di Crema in October 2019 attracted 10,000 visitors in two weeks. SOB's art is designed to be sustainable, lightweight, and transportable; works are created in a studio in the Cremasco countryside and can be packed into a backpack to cross the ocean. He attaches fairy-tale animals to a bicycle and rides through rural areas, moors, towns, and cities. During Art Basel week in Miami, he performed 'I Don't Know Where to Go,' cycling through downtown with a large silk animal in tow, realizing his dream of bringing art, color, and wonder to the public.
