Soap Exhibition at Museum Jan Cunen Tackles Colonialism and Gender

Museum Jan Cunen in Oss presents 'Zeep – Een tentoonstelling die lekker ruikt', a group exhibition featuring over thirty artists who use soap as a lens to examine self-image, colonialism, gender inequality, and the climate crisis. The show combines humor with serious themes, including works like Roos van Geffen's 'Moeder en kind' (2021), where she washes her hands with a soap cast of her mother's hand, symbolizing love and suffering. Narges Mohammadi's 'Badkamer van stro' (2021) uses prickly straw to question the bathroom as a safe space. Lightness is provided by Kleinstukjeversheid (Jeroen van Steijn) with small shower curtains hiding poems. Visitors can end with a purifying ritual under an applauding shower. The exhibition runs at Museum Jan Cunen in Oss, Netherlands.
