Snøhetta to Redesign Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska

The Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, Nebraska, has chosen the Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta for its redesign and expansion. This initiative focuses on creating a new structure that will harmonize with the original 1931 Memorial Building and the 1994 Walter and Suzanne Scott Pavilion, crafted by Norman Foster. The expansion aims to introduce new galleries for public education and improve the visitor experience, building on the museum's 2014 launch of a 140-square-meter interactive area known as ART WORKS: A Place for Curiosity. With a collection exceeding 12,000 artworks, including pieces by renowned artists such as Rembrandt, Titian, and Pollock, Executive Director Jack Becker emphasized the importance of preserving the existing buildings while appreciating Snøhetta's innovative design. This project signifies Snøhetta's return to the U.S. after their work on the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). The expansion is set to enhance art display, visitor capacity, and educational offerings, further solidifying the museum's status as a key asset in Nebraska.
