Snøhetta and h2o architectes Restore Musée National de la Marine in Paris

After five years of renovation, the Musée National de la Marine in Paris reopened in November 2023. The project, led by h2o architectes and Snøhetta, restored the monumentality of the Palais de Chaillot while introducing contemporary design. The architects reorganized internal spaces to improve visitor and staff experience, using curved forms inspired by water to facilitate circulation. Snøhetta focused on the entrance sequence, ticketing area, and light integration, while h2o oversaw overall construction and public spaces. The design reopens windows in the Galerie Carlu to restore visual connections with the gardens and Eiffel Tower. Museum design by Casson Mann emphasizes sensory engagement and accessibility. Snøhetta's Paris office is also working on the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterre, the Natural History Museum of Lille, the Nouveau Centre Administratif d'Etat in Lyon (2024), the Cour nationale du droit d'asile in Montreuil, the Euraénergie hub in Dunkirk (2024), and the redevelopment of Boulevard de la Croisette in Cannes.
