Smiljan Radić to Lead 2026 Pritzker Prize Conference in Mexico City

Chilean architect Smiljan Radić Clarke, winner of the 2026 Pritzker Architecture Prize, will deliver the keynote lecture and participate in a panel discussion at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) on May 12, 2026. The event, titled "Architecture: Distraction and Knowledge," will take place at the Teatro Estefanía Chávez in the Faculty of Architecture. Radić will reflect on travel as a formative dimension of architectural practice, arguing that architecture is shaped by lived experiences as much as formal knowledge. He will be joined by fellow Pritzker laureates Liu Jiakun (2025) and Francis Kéré (2022) for a discussion on career successes and challenges. The jury praised Radić's "unorthodox approach to design" as "fresh and unprecedented." The conference is free and open to the public, with limited capacity and live streaming. It follows the 2026 ceremony at the historic Chapultepec Castle, with a video expected in autumn. Radić will also speak at the UIA World Congress of Architects in Barcelona (June 28–July 2, 2026) and participate in the Concéntrico urban laboratory with a lightweight, collapsible structure inspired by a Chilean "poor circus."
