Slowcool: A Design Ice Cream Tub That Slows Melting

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

After the September 2022 floods devastated Senigallia, gelato master Paolo Brunelli collaborated with architect Riccardo Diotallevi to create Slowcool, a patented ice cream container that slows melting. The tub holds three cups in a thermal tray with a water-glycol coolant mixture, preserving the gelato's texture for a prolonged tasting experience. Made from food-grade polymer with a transparent lid and carrying handle, the design addresses the challenges of delivery and takeaway consumption that surged during the pandemic. Brunelli's Senigallia shop, damaged by the flood, will reopen renovated according to Diotallevi's project.
