Slimen Elkamel: Tunisian Painter Weaves Folktales into Pointillist Canvases

artist · 2026-04-22

Slimen Elkamel, a 40-year-old artist from Tunisia, produces vivid pointillist artwork influenced by the storytelling traditions of his four aunts. His acrylic pen creations intertwine fiction and reality through a non-linear approach. Elkamel rose to global prominence following his solo exhibition 'A Coeur Ouvert' at the Institut du monde arabe in Paris in 2023, which was followed by exhibitions at La La Lande Gallery and Nouchine Pehlavan Gallery. His works are part of collections at MACAAL (Morocco), Blachère Foundation (France), Alain Servais Collection (Belgium), and Gandur Foundation (Switzerland). He is set to participate in the group exhibition 'Indigo Waves and Other Stories' at Savvy Contemporary in Berlin, opening on 6 April 2024. Elkamel also supports his hometown of Mezzouna through a studio funded by his art sales.
