Sleep at the Bauhaus Dessau: Prellerhaus Now Open for Overnight Stays

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

The historic Prellerhaus at the Bauhaus Dessau, designed by Walter Gropius and completed in 1926, now offers overnight stays to visitors. The building contains 28 studios of about 20 square meters each, where notable figures such as Josef and Anni Albers, Hannes Meyer, and Marcel Breuer once lived and worked. The interiors have been meticulously restored with exact replicas of original furniture and accessories, preserving the minimalist rationalist atmosphere. Rooms feature essential furnishings: a bed, coat rack, chest of drawers, desk, sink, and Thonet chairs, with shared toilets and a ground-floor cafeteria for breakfast. Prices range from €40 to €60 per night. This initiative is part of broader celebrations leading up to the Bauhaus centenary in 2019, following the release of new fonts in collaboration with Adobe and the launch of an artist residency program.
