Sky Arte Series 'In compagnia del lupo' Explores Dark Origins of Little Red Riding Hood and The Little Prince
Sky Arte launches 'In compagnia del lupo. Il cuore nero delle fiabe', an eight-episode series hosted by Carlo Lucarelli starting February 15, 2021. The first episode, 'Cappuccetto Rosso e i lupi mannari', revisits the 1598 case of Pernette Gandillon, a girl in the French Jura region who attacked children while believing herself a werewolf. She was executed by hanging and burning after a judge convicted her of lycanthropy. The judge had previously sentenced over 600 alleged werewolves to death. Charles Perrault's 1697 version of Little Red Riding Hood likely drew inspiration from such real-life events. The second episode, 'Il Piccolo Principe, una misteriosa scomparsa', focuses on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's disappearance on July 31, 1944, during a reconnaissance flight. He left a note on his desk: 'Under the threat of war, I am more naked and bare than ever. If I am shot down, I will have nothing to regret. I was born to be a gardener.' Theories about his death circulated for decades until April 2008, when former Luftwaffe pilot Horst Rippert claimed he shot down Saint-Exupéry's plane. The series is produced by Sky Arte in collaboration with Artribune.
