Sky Arte’s Holocaust Remembrance Day programming
Sky Arte will commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27 with a special lineup. The programming begins with "1938 Diversi ‒ Le leggi razziali del fascismo," a film by Giorgio Treves examining the fascist regime's propaganda machine under the Ministry of Popular Culture (MinCulPop), which used articles, comics, and cartoons to turn Jews into "different" and then enemies. Next is "Definizioni d’Autore ‒ Zanichelli ‒ Segre – Indifferenza," an original production co-produced by Sky Arte and Zanichelli, filmed at the Memoriale della Shoah di Milano. Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre guides viewers through the deportation site, defining the word "indifferenza" (indifference) for the Zingarelli 2020 dictionary, stating that indifference is the key to understanding evil. Prime time features the documentary "Chi scriverà la nostra storia" by Roberta Grossman, narrated by Joan Allen and Adrien Brody. It tells the story of the Oyneg Shabes group, led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum, who secretly documented life in the Warsaw Ghetto from November 1940, burying 60,000 pages of testimonies to survive the war. The evening concludes with "In memoria di Erno Egri Erbstein," where Federico Buffa and Susanna Egri recount the story of her father, Ernesto Egri Erbstein, coach of the Grande Torino football team, who suffered under racial laws and died in the Superga tragedy.
