Sky Arte's 'Grand Tour' Series Explores Italy Through Travelers' Eyes

Sky Arte premieres 'Grand Tour ‒ Viaggio in Italia,' a six-episode series starting March 14, 2023, produced by 3D Produzioni. Hosted by actor Alessandro Sperduti, the series retraces the Grand Tour route from north to south, visiting Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Sicily, and Genoa. It highlights monuments, museums, and natural landscapes, drawing on writings by Goethe, Stendhal, Proust, Mann, and Melville. The first episode begins at the Moncenisio pass and explores Venice, featuring Canaletto's vedute, works by Bellini, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, El Greco, Turner, and Anselm Kiefer's installation at Palazzo Ducale. It also visits Vicenza's Gallerie d'Italia, showing Grand Tour paintings and Francesco Bertos's sculpture. The second episode starts in the Apuan Alps marble quarries, linked to Michelangelo, and moves to Florence, where Rodin was inspired by Michelangelo's New Sacristy, Stendhal experienced his syndrome at Santa Croce, and Pre-Raphaelites admired Botticelli.
