Sky Arte's Artbox Episode Features Genoa's Monet to Bacon Show and Pellegrin Retrospective

The sixth episode of Sky Arte's Artbox series, airing December 20, 2018, opens at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, which until March hosts masterpieces from the Johannesburg Art Gallery. The exhibition spans over a century of international art from Monet to Bacon, mid-19th to late 20th century, with a dedicated section on contemporary African art. The collection was primarily assembled by Lady Florence Phillips, wife of a mining magnate, who aimed to gift her city a democratic museum during South Africa's colonial era. At MAXXI in Rome, a retrospective of photographer Paolo Pellegrin, a Magnum member, presents over 150 images from his private archive covering 20 years of work, including conflicts in the Balkans, migration, and racism. The episode also covers a silent party organized by Maurizio Cattelan and Toilet Paper magazine for Dom Perignon at the Grand Hotel et de Milan in Milan, where a floor is dedicated to installations and performances with rules of silence and written communication. Additionally, Perugino's Adoration of the Magi, on loan from the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia, is displayed at Palazzo Marino in Milan during the holidays.
