Sky Arte premieres documentary on Museo Egizio di Torino

The documentary 'Uomini e Dei. Le meraviglie del Museo Egizio' premieres on February 8 on Sky Arte and streaming on NOW. Narrated by Oscar winner Jeremy Irons, it explores 200 years of the museum, founded in 1824. The museum holds over 40,000 artifacts including sphinxes, monumental statues, amulets, and sarcophagi. The film traces the work of explorers and archaeologists Donati, Drovetti, and Schiapparelli, following the Nile from Giza to Thebes and ending in Turin. It also delves into the 16th century when the Savoy family rewrote Turin's Egyptian origin myth. Featuring interviews with director Christian Greco and president Evelina Christillin, the documentary uses exclusive footage and historical reconstructions. Its three narrative threads cover the museum's archaeological expeditions in Egypt, the funerary equipment of Kha and Merit, and the evolution of Egyptian funerary culture from prehistory to the Ptolemaic period. The original soundtrack is by Remo Anzovino, performed by the Orchestra Sinfonica Accademia Naonis. Produced by 3D Produzioni, Nexo Digital, and Sky in collaboration with the Museo Egizio, directed by Michele Mally, with subject by Mally and Matteo Moneta, who also wrote the screenplay.
