Sky Arte HD brings Büchner and Brecht back to Piccolo Teatro Milano

other · 2026-05-05

Sky Arte HD renews its exclusive partnership with Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Italy's first permanent theatre with nearly 70 years of history and three stages. On Monday, July 11, the channel will broadcast Mario Martone's production of Georg Büchner's "La morte di Danton" (Danton's Death), a drama about the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, returning to Italian stages after 40 years. On Wednesday, July 13, Sky Arte will air Damiano Michieletto's staging of Bertolt Brecht's "The Threepenny Opera" (L'Opera da 3 soldi), returning to Piccolo Teatro 60 years after Giorgio Strehler's iconic production. Michieletto reimagines the classic as a mocking anti-capitalist musical, updated with references to migrant crises and miscarriages of justice. The cast includes Peppe Servillo and Rossy de Palma, known for her work with Pedro Almodóvar. The broadcasts are part of Sky Arte's summer programming, produced in collaboration with Artribune.
