Sky Arte film traces Piero della Francesca's life and landscapes

A new documentary, 'Piero della Francesca. L'enigma nella tela,' premiering on Sky Arte on February 26, 2026, retraces the Renaissance master's journey through the towns and countryside of Tuscany and beyond. The film visits Sansepolcro, his birthplace, where his home and a museum housing key works remain; Monterchi, home to the fresco 'Madonna del Parto'; and Arezzo's Basilica of San Francesco, which holds his masterpiece. It also extends to Urbino's Palazzo Ducale, site of the 'Flagellation of Christ,' and Rimini's Tempio Malatestiano, featuring his fresco of Sigismondo Malatesta. The documentary highlights Piero's enduring influence on later artists like Max Beckmann and Giorgio de Chirico, who undertook artistic pilgrimages to his works.
