Sky Arte documentary pays tribute to painter Antonio Possenti

The documentary 'Storie di Altromare ‒ Omaggio a Antonio Possenti' will air on Friday, April 13 on Sky Arte HD. Directed by Lorenzo Garzella, the film honors the painter who transformed Lucca's Piazza dell'Anfiteatro into a fantastical harbor of whalers, lost sailors, mermaid hunters, and flying fish. Possenti, who died in 2016, shaped 20th-century Lucchese painting with his fable-like narratives. The documentary blends archival Super8 footage, interviews, old writings, and intimate studio details, animating his paintings so that his creatures come to life and wander Lucca's nocturnal streets, suggesting his spirit still secretly inhabits the city.
