Sky Arte documentary on Rubens premieres March 13

A documentary on Peter Paul Rubens, titled 'Pietro Paolo Rubens e la nascita del Barocco', will premiere on Sky Arte HD on Monday, March 13, as part of the 'Exhibition' series. The film revisits the recent blockbuster exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan, which showcased 17th-century faces, mythological heroes, and biblical saints, highlighting Rubens' pictorial power. The documentary traces the origins of his revolutionary style, focusing on his stay in Italy from 1600 to 1608. Curator Anna Lo Bianco and expert Cecilia Paolini note that Rubens drew inspiration from Italian colleagues and ancient artworks, yet his own canvases became models for the next generation of Italian Baroque artists, including Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Pietro da Cortona, and Luca Giordano.
