Sky Arte Documentary on Christo's The Floating Piers

Sky Arte HD will air a documentary titled 'Christo – Navigare a piedi sulle acque' on Friday, July 1, 2016, focusing on Christo's installation 'The Floating Piers' on Lake Iseo, Italy. The work, open until July 3, 2016, consists of three kilometers of floating walkways covered in 70,000 square meters of orange fabric, connecting the towns of Sulzano and Peschiera Maraglio to Monte Isola. The piers are anchored by 140 anchors and allow visitors to walk barefoot on water for free. Christo, an 80-year-old Bulgarian artist known for wrapping landmarks like the Reichstag and Pont Neuf, created the project with his late wife Jeanne-Claude, who died in 2009. The documentary explores Christo's process, including his inability to drive or use a computer, and his hand-drawn designs. The installation has drawn record crowds, with Christo emphasizing that the work's purpose is realized only through the visitors' experience.
