Sky Arte Documentary Explores Jacques Mayol, the Dolphin Man

On Saturday, January 30, Sky Arte will air "Dolphin man ‒ L’uomo delfino," a documentary about legendary free diver Jacques Mayol, whose life inspired Luc Besson's film "The Big Blue." Directed by Lefteris Charitos and narrated by Jean-Marc Barr (who played Mayol in the film), the documentary features interviews with Mayol's children Dottie and Jean-Jacques, and champion freedivers William Trubridge, Mehgan Heaney-Grier, and Umberto Pelizzari. Combining contemporary underwater footage with archival material from the 1950s onward, the film traces Mayol's journey from the Mediterranean to Japan, India, and the Bahamas, highlighting his quest to transcend human limits and deepen the connection between humans and the sea.
