Sky Arte Documentary Explores Ettore Majorana's Mysterious Disappearance

other · 2026-05-04

Sky Arte HD will air the documentary 'Ettore Majorana ‒ L’uomo del futuro' on Monday, March 26, marking 80 years since the disappearance of the renowned Italian physicist. Narrated by Federico Buffa, the five-part program features international experts discussing Majorana's contributions to nuclear physics, neutrino theory, and antimatter. The setting is the Teatro di Como, where the opera 'Ettore Majorana: cronache di infinite scomparse' is staged, transforming the theater into a ship's deck reminiscent of the vessel Majorana boarded before vanishing. Experts include Fabiola Gianotti, CERN Director-General, who explains Majorana's scientific impact; his nephew Salvatore Majorana; and Professor Erasmo Recami, a leading biographer. Giorgio Dragoni and Stefano Roncoroni analyze the disappearance, while prosecutor Pier Filippo Laviani, Francesco Fasani's daughter, and Recami examine claims of Majorana's alleged emigration to Venezuela. On March 27, Sky Cinema Cult premieres 'Nessuno mi troverà,' a documentary by Egidio Eronico using archival footage, graphic novel animations, and testimonies to trace Majorana's life: his childhood in Catania, mathematical aptitude, engineering studies in Rome, shift to physics with Enrico Fermi's 'via Panisperna boys,' academic stay in Leipzig, return to Italy, voluntary isolation, professorship at the University of Naples, and unresolved disappearance.
