Sky Arte Documentary Explores Easter Through Art History

A new documentary titled 'La Pasqua nell'Arte' (Easter in Art) will air on Sky Arte on Sunday, April 17, 2022, coinciding with Easter festivities. Directed by British filmmaker Phil Grabsky and shot across Jerusalem, the United States, and Europe, the film takes a transversal approach to the theme of Easter rather than focusing on a single museum, exhibition, or artist. It examines how masters such as Caravaggio, Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, El Greco, Dalí, Rubens, and Titian interpreted the biblical narrative of Christ's death and resurrection. The documentary reveals how the same biblical passage inspired diverse masterpieces varying in formal register, language, and style. It also explores how artists across centuries grappled with universal themes of suffering, death, and rebirth, and highlights the historical role of these artworks in disseminating scripture to the faithful.
