Sky Arte Documentary Explores Caravaggio's Final Masterpiece

A new documentary titled 'Caravaggio e il Giubileo' premiering on Sky Arte on June 19, 2025, focuses on Caravaggio's last painting, the 'Martirio di Sant'Orsola'. The work, dated 1610, is currently on loan from the Gallerie d'Italia di Napoli to the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica – Palazzo Barberini in Rome for the exhibition 'Caravaggio 2025', which runs until July 6, 2025. The painting was created while Caravaggio was in Naples fleeing a death sentence in Rome. He died of fever later that year in Porto Ercole. The documentary features commentary from Francesca Cappelletti, director of the Galleria Borghese and curator of the exhibition, as well as restorers Fabiola Jatta and Laura Cibrario. It explores the painting as both a self-portrait and spiritual testament, reflecting the artist's troubled soul.
