Sky Arte Documentary Explores Bellotto, Canaletto and Vedutismo

A documentary on Bellotto, Canaletto, and the vedutismo movement will air Thursday, December 22 on Sky Arte HD. The film translates the spirit of the exhibition "Bellotto e Canaletto. Lo stupore e la luce" at Gallerie d'Italia in Milan (until March 5, 2017), curated by Bożena Anna Kowalczyk. The show gathers about one hundred masterpieces—paintings, drawings, and prints—by Antonio Canal (Canaletto) and his nephew Bernardo Bellotto, who transformed Venetian vedutismo into an avant-garde movement that influenced photography and cinema. The documentary follows their creative journey from Venice to various Italian and European cities, highlighting Bellotto's technical inheritance from Canaletto and his modern landscapes and capricci.
