Sky Arte Documentary Celebrates Emilio Vedova's Centenary

Sky Arte will air the documentary "Emilio Vedova. Dalla parte del naufragio" on December 5, 2019, honoring the Venetian painter on the centenary of his birth. Directed by Tomaso Pessina, the film uses unpublished archival footage and Toni Servillo's narration of Vedova's diaries to trace the artist's personal and professional journey against Italy's historical backdrop—from post-agricultural society to fascism, the partisan struggle, postwar period, and new avant-gardes. The documentary emphasizes the physical, spatial, and chromatic aspects of Vedova's work, employing a scientific approach. It covers his evolution from early drawings and geometric works to the vibrant colors of the postwar era, expressionist and informal art of the 1960s, the Plurimi and Tondi series, large canvases of the 1980s, and his final pieces.
